TWS earbuds get the marketing attention, but neckbands still outsell them in several Indian categories, and for good reason. They suit a genuinely different way of using earphones.
The case for TWS earbuds
True wireless earbuds have no cable at all. Each bud is independent, and they charge in a case that doubles as a carry pouch. They are lighter, less visible, and better for the gym, running and cycling, where a neckband cable bounces.
Current models like the Earwaves S66 run Bluetooth 5.5 with 13mm drivers, ENC for calls and a 50ms low-latency gaming mode. Playtime is typically 5-7 hours per bud with the case taking you to 25 hours or so.
The case for neckbands
The neckband's advantage is not sound quality — it is what happens between uses. Take the buds out of your ears and they hang on your chest, usually held by magnets. They do not need a case, they do not roll under a seat, and you cannot leave one behind in an auto.
Battery life is also in a different league. A neckband has room for a much larger cell than a bud does, so all-day runtime on one charge is normal rather than exceptional. The NB03 Lite uses magnetic earbuds, deep bass tuning and fast charging.
Choose a neckband if
- You take calls all day and are in and out of your ears constantly
- You commute on a bike or in traffic and want them ready but not in
- You have lost an earbud before, or expect to
- You want one charge to last a working day
- You want the best sound per rupee — a neckband at Rs 599 generally outperforms TWS at the same price, because none of the budget goes into a charging case
Choose TWS if
- You run, lift or cycle and a cable across your neck annoys you
- You want something discreet
- You value the case as a place to store and protect them
- You watch a lot of video or game, where low-latency mode matters
The honest verdict
For most people whose day is calls and commuting, a neckband is the more practical buy, and it is the one most likely to still be in use a year later. For workouts and for anyone who dislikes the feeling of a cable, TWS is worth the trade-offs.
If you are still unsure, price is a fair tiebreaker: at the entry level, a neckband gives you more sound and more battery for the money. Browse TWS earbuds or the full audio range.
