Chargers are sold on a single number — 20W, 30W, 65W — and that number tells you the ceiling, not what your phone will actually draw. Buying more watts than your device can accept is money spent on nothing.

The rule that saves money
A charger never forces power into a device. Your phone negotiates what it will accept and takes that much. A 65W charger on a 20W phone charges at 20W — no faster, no damage, just unused headroom.
So the reason to buy a higher-wattage charger is not speed on one phone. It is: charging a laptop, charging two things simultaneously at full speed, or future-proofing for the next device.
Where the wattage goes on a dual-port charger
This is the detail listings hide. A "45W dual port" charger is usually 45W total, split when both ports are in use — often 30W and 15W, not 45W each. Check the split before assuming you can fast-charge two phones at once.

PD and QC: do you need both?

The cable is half the equation
A 65W charger paired with a cable rated for 60W delivers 60W. Worse, a cheap unmarked cable may deliver 15W regardless of what either end can do. Do you still need an extension board?

Will a 65W charger damage my phone? No. The phone controls the draw.
